Melissa Stark was born on November 11, 1973, in Baltimore, Maryland, the U.S.

She is the only child of Dr. Walter Stark(father), one of the leading eye surgeons in the world-renowned Wilmer Eye Clinic, The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland, US.

Melissa Stark was educated at Roland Park Country School and obtained her degree in Foreign Affairs and Spanish from the University of Virginia.

In 1995, Melissa graduated from the UVA in Phi Beta Kappa with a double major.

When she was studying at Virginia University, she covered football and basketball broadcast for statewide channels.

Melissa Stark’s Career

Melissa Stark began her journalism career as a news intern working on the assignment desk for WMAR-TV in Baltimore in the year 1991.

Later, Melissa Stark moved and worked as a news intern for the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather between 1993 and 1994 where she wrote scripts and assembled background information on investigation pieces for health correspondent Dr. Bob Arnot.

Stark also worked as a production assistant and the reporter for Virginia coach’s TV  show before joining the ESPN network in 1996.

However, her success started with an opportunity to host the weekly program Scholastic Sports America and she traveled across the US covering high school and college sports.

In 2012, she was the co-host of the show Geography Bee in which the children competed for the nation’s top title. It was broadcasted by National Geography. She had covered NBC’s China Olympics as a host.

Currently, she is working for the NFL GameDay First Network with her co-host Shaun O’Hara and NBC.

Stark returned to NBC as the new sideline reporter of Sunday Night Football, replacing Michele Tafoya in 2022.
