Charney created his acting debut in 1952 with a minor position in director Joseph Pevney’s romance/drama Because of You. After featuring in a minor, uncredited role in The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T. and Adventures of Superman (TV Series), he anchored his first credit in 1954, emerging as “Peter Benson III – ‘Pidge'” in Lewis Allen-directed crime drama Unexpectedly (starring Frank Sinatra and Sterling Hayden.)

The 1950s marked Charney busy with an abundance of roles in a wide scope of TV series/movies like General Electric Theater (1955), The Pepsi-Cola Playhouse (1954), Your Favorite Story (1954), The Talking Wire (TV Movie, 1955), Lux Video Theatre (1955-1957), Zane Grey Theater (1957), Telephone Time (1957), and Dragnet (1956).

During the years 1955-1957, Charney was noticed in three additional roles, as “Link Webb”, “Buddy Fowler”, and “Short Lassiter”, in three episodes of the hit television series Tales of the Texas Rangers. Charney was latest seen on TV in 1963, with the portrayal of the character “Frank” in the “The Risk” episode of the TV series Mr. Novak.
