Julia Louis-Dreyfus: Bill Clinton Had the Best Reaction to Veep

May 2024 · 1 minute read

It turns out Selina Meyer’s got an advantage over the real U.S. presidents! The V.P.-turned-POTUS on HBO’s Veep occasionally gets input from actual politicians.

At the New York premiere of Veep’s season 4, star Julia Louis-Dreyfus revealed to Us Weekly that former President Bill Clinton has weighed in on her job in the fictional Oval Office.

“I had Bill Clinton say to me, ‘You know what the best part of your job is? No term limits. No term limits!’” she said, laughing. “That was pretty cool.”

Starring on four seasons of the hit comedy has made the Seinfeld alum view politics in a different light.

“It's made me more understanding of politicians,’ she explained. “I understand what a challenge it is — particularly nowadays, more so than ever — to remain true to your moral center and your ideology and serving the people. It's tricky.”

As for her character’s sailor mouth, it’s not that far from reality.

“Oh, I'm a big curser in real life,” she admitted. “I didn't need the show to push me there.”

Veep season 4 premieres Sunday, April 12 at 10:30 p.m. ET on HBO.
