Bobby Beathard was an American Pro Football Hall of Fame executive who was a general manager in the National Football League (NFL) for the Washington Redskins and San Diego Chargers.

Beathard was born in Zanesville, Ohio, and at the age of four, his family moved to El Segundo, California. He went to El Segundo High School, although he didn’t start playing football as a tailback until his sophomore year.
He earned a football scholarship to play for LSU in college, but after summer workouts he felt homesick and went back to his family.
After a year at El Camino Junior College, he attended Cal Poly, where he played football as a backup running back, starting quarterback, and defensive back while helping the team to consecutive 9-1 seasons.
He spent his early post-college years playing semi-pro football and doing other non-football jobs after going undrafted in 1959. He had pre-season stays with two professional teams but was unable to earn a slot.
